The state’s largest women’s-only walk/run is just around the corner. The Emma Creek Classic 5k Walk, Jog or Run, is in its 24th consecutive year.
The race will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at Hesston High School. Hesston is about 40 minutes north of Wichita along Interstate 135.
The race is open to women of all ages and skill levels.
Awards are given to the Top 10 overall winners, plus the top three in each of 16 age divisions. Last year’s race brought 1,122 registrants from all over the country.
The 3.1-mile course allows each participant to enjoy a scenic route through Hesston’s residential streets and along the fairways of Hesston Golf Course.
Whether runners finish the race in a few minutes or after an hour, the certified race is complete with a chip timing system, and aid stations are available along the course.
After crossing the finish line, each participant is treated to a buffet.
At about 11 a.m., an awards ceremony will begin in the Hesston High School gymnasium, where recognition also is given to teams comprised of families, special interest groups or workplace groups, as well as the oldest participant.
Each registered participant receives a T-shirt and a packet of items donated by the Emma Creek Steering Committee and various area sponsors.
Proceeds from the race go to help pay for scholarships and other programming for Hesston Recreation, a not-for-profit organization.
Registration forms for this event are available by contacting Hesston Recreation & Community Education at (620) 327-7128 or by going to the Web site at www.hrce.org.
