H.A.S. Potato Bar To Benefit Health Fair

Hesston Area Senior Center is hosting their annual Potato Bar on Friday evening from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Louise Smith, one of the coordinators of the Potato Bar, said the event is a major fundraiser for the Health Fair hosted by the Senior Center in June.

“The proceeds of the Potato Bar go toward making up the deficit for the Community Health Fair,” she said.

Smith said for the Potato Bar, the Senior Center partners with Thrivent Financial.

“We are fortunate that Lutheran Thrivent Financial will match our profits on a 50 percent basis,” she said.

For the Hesston Area Senior Center to make the most of the matching program, which caps out at $500, the Potato Bar must raise $1,000.

“We need strong support to achieve this goal,” said Smith.

Support for the Senior Center’s Community Health Fair is more important now than ever.

“As is the current trend, prices are increasing and budget cuts are affecting finances,” said Smith.

Smith said she hopes the Potato Bar will see a strong turnout.

“We hope that a larger number of community members can reserve this date to led this much-needed support,” she said.

At the Potato Bar, Smith said there will be many dinner options.

“The meal will include a large potato, toppings of chili, broccoli and cheese sauce, cheese, onions, sour cream and bacon bits.  We will also be serving Caesar salad, rolls, and home made pies,” said Smith.

The Potato Bar is a by-donation event.

“This is a great event with good food, good fellowship and for a good cause,” said Smith.
