Dirty 30 Fitness Class Getting Hesstonians In Shape For Summer

Spring is a time when most Hesston residents start thinking seriously about shedding winter pounds and getting in shape for summer.

Two Hesston residents, Michelle Rediger and Nicole Eickbush are hosting Dirty 30 fitness classes for adults and children this summer.

Eickbush’s first class for adults, a fitness boot camp, kicked off this month and is hosted at King Park Monday through Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The same class is held Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Rediger0 a.m.

“I did this in Texas for a while, but I decided I wanted to go bigger. I wanted to be outdoors. I’m really big on health and fitness,” said Eickbush.

Eickbush and she and Rediger came up with the idea for Dirty 30 Fitness after meeting at a Mom To Mom gathering.

“We got to talking and we are both passionate about fitness and helping others with their fitness goals,” said Rediger.

“Dirty 30 is a workout in cross-fit; and it is one of my favorite workouts. It’s 30 minutes of exercise with 30 rounds and 30-second breaks. And, I’m in my 30’s. So that’s where that came from. Since we are outside, we added the ‘dirty,’” Said Eickbush.

Each of the ladies have certification in lifestyle and fitness goals.
”I have experience from doing it. I’ve taken classes on fitness and led classes in the past. I went through the Action Personal Training Certification program,” said Eickbush.

“Most of my fitness comes from years of experience and workouts. But I also am a Certified Christian Life Coach. I take a different approach to fitness in promoting whole-person health, spiritual, mental and emotion health. I connect those things to fitness and helping people achieve goals,” said Rediger.

Both ladies said the class can help motivate people to make changes in their daily routines.

“Staying fit is a lifestyle change. This class is to get people moving. People have long days at work. Once I get to class, I feel better,” said Eickbush.

Having a group, Rediger said, can keep people coming back.

“It is a lot about accountability when it comes to showing up for class,” she said.

“You have to make it part of your life,” said Eickbush.

During the classes, workout equipment is provided by Rediger and Eickbush.

“We provide a lot for this class – elastic bands, rings, T.R.X. Suspensions. We provide a lot of equipment and we might rotate equipment and rotate exercises if we get enough attendees. We can add more as more come to class,” said Eickbush.

Keeping the class fresh and interesting is a high priority for the ladies.

“We want to get people out side and socializing more and being healthier.  It is something different.  One day will be basketball, another day will be boot-camp style,” said Rediger.

Currently, Eickbush said, there are between 3 and Rediger0 adults attending classes in the evenings.

“It depends on the day and the weather,” she said.

Eickbush said the purpose of taking on a new adult fitness class in the community was to bring people together.

“I find fulfillment in getting out and meeting people because I’m new in town. It helps motivate me and stay on track for my own fitness goals and help people with theirs,” said Eickbush.

When it came to the children’s fitness camp coming up June 5 to Aug. Eickbush, there will be a number of themes to keep youth engaged.

“We have a different theme each week. One week will be minute-to-win-it, another will be a wacky workout day, boot camp day. At the end, we will have the Kid Olympics,” said Eickbush. 

The children’s’ camps will be broken into different age groups.

“We plan to split kids by age-group. We can break it up even more and we can change up how we do things . We can break groups into teams so kids can have fun being a little competitive,” said Eickbush.

Rediger said getting children moving at a young age can promote life-long health.

“I’m hoping kids will see that being active is a good thing. So many times, families spend a lot of time in front of the TV. I hope these kids see there are activities they can do outside,” she said.
