The Hesston Community Foundation delivered a check to the Hesston United Methodist Church to assist with their after-school program. This is the second year for the Community Foundation to help fund the program according to Foundation Director Susan Lamb.
“While the HCF board of directors will be intentional in making certain grants are distributed throughout the community, there are no guidelines to prevent an organization from receiving funding two years in a row,” she said.
Darci Mann Youth and Discipleship Minister at Hesston United Methodist Church, said the program began with a single student and his friends.
“The program began because of children needing assistance on a very, hot day in late August of 2011. Jakeb Ledford, a youth at our church, brought a group of kids into the church for a drink of water on their walk home,” said Mann.
Mann said the After-School program is not a child-sitting program, but a stop-over for a small snack and fellowship.
“We try to have them out the door by 3:45 that way they can be home by 4 p.m.,” she said.
