On Monday evening members of the Hesston Recreation Commission, Director John Earl, Secretary Brad Koehn and board member Derek Roth, addressed the City Council regarding baseball facilities in Hesston.
Roth said one of the greatest challenges the Rec is currently facing is a lack of diamonds and scheduling challenges.
“John put together numbers on field utilization in the summer and we are struggling with having enough fields to do what we need to do,” he said.
Roth said while all available fields are used for games, coaches face the challenge of finding time to work with players.
“The fields are booked solid, non-stop. As coaches, there is no time to practice. Once the season starts, there is just no opportunity unless it is a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon,” he said.
