Janet Zook and RuthAnn Toews have a lust for blood.
On Jan. 16, the pair will coordinate their 25th blood drive at Hesston Mennonite Church on Main Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Four years ago, the previous coordinators, Clif and Lois Amstutz, knew they were ready to make a transition.
“The Amstutzes knew they needed to retire. And for a couple years, they wanted someone to replace them,” said Toews.
As an experienced coordinator, the Amstutzs contacted Toews.
“I said I wouldn’t do it alone. I had done it when my boys were little. I went through the church directory, and there was Janet. We didn’t even know each other,” said Toews.
When Zook and Toews began working together, they found a strong foundation in the Amstutzs’ work.
“Clif Amstutz had really good organizational skills. We got information on where to deliver posters and a lot of other helpful hints. It was a good foundation for us to start on,” said Zook.
